Jorge C. Cordova, MA., MSW, D.Min. is a licensed clinical social worker. He earned his BA. and MA
at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. He received his MSW at the Worden School of Social Work, Our Lady of the Lake
University, also in San Antonio. And he graduated with a doctorate in ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago,
Illinois.
Jorge spent the last thirty years working in Houston, Texas, as director
of chaplaincy services for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department (HCSD), one of the largest county jails in the nation
housing over 10,000 male and female adult inmates.
Jorge began his ministerial
journey in 1962 in Union City, N.J. where he started a Spanish-speaking department at Calvary Baptist Church for newly arrived
Cuban political exiles, while attending Bloomfield College, Bloomfield, New Jersey. Two years later, he moved his young family
to San Antonio, Texas, becoming an associate pastor at Beacon Hill Baptist Church, and he enrolled at Trinity University.
After earning his BA and MA both degrees in sociology, he continued his studies at OLLU. And even later, he completed his
doctorate in the psychology and sociology of religion. His unpublished doctoral project was titled: The Religious Factor
in the Rehabilitation of Criminal Inmates. The project planted the seed for the development of the volunteer tutoring
program of Jack Colson’s Ministry.
Jorge devoted his professional life
to work within the three basic social institutions in the USA: Family, Education and Religion. He sees these three intimately
interacting to develop life in society. So, he works to contribute to the efforts of the contingent working to strengthen
this social foundation as a pastor, a teacher, a counselor and a writer.
Fluent
in Spanish, Jorge is the author of Extranjeros y Advenedizos. Editorial Caribe 1992 and La Familia en el Nuevo Milenio.
Editorial Betania 1994. And he has authored numerous periodical articles for Houston Texas and Miami Florida, Spanish language
publications.
Jorge’s latest work in English is How to Develop an Effective
Prayer Life. Religious Review and Booklocker 2006. In addition, Jorge is writer, publisher and webmaster of his website
at www.religiousreview.com and Jail Chaplaincy Ministry’s website at www.ghg.net/jcm.
An extensive background in sociology, psychology and social
psychology afforded Jorge the opportunity to conduct numerous workshops and conferences on Counseling Psychology, Marriage
and the Family and Social Ministries both in our country and abroad. And now, with extensive experience working with individuals,
families and other groups, Jorge joins Champions Christian Counseling Center, where he will work with the rest of the staff
to bring mental, emotional and spiritual relief to so many in need.
